In a recent post I highlighted a blogger’s question about whether BMW’s brand is hurt by being sold in Costco. Today I came across this post about the once-underground hip hop fave Ed Hardy losing its mojo by going Costco:
Ed Hardy…at Costco!!?? Sure, at $39.99 a piece, it’s a screamin’ deal, but being on sale at Costco is a red flag that the brand has gone from high-end to suburban mainstream. So all you true Ed Hardy fans, who’ve been spending top-dollar on the line since 2006 like myself, garb yourself in black and grab a carton of ice cream to mourn the loss of the blinged-out brand’s trendiness.
Does selling out at Costco mean you’ve sold out?
